The art of Veronica Foster is a hybrid of sculpture and painting. A thin veneer of plaster on canvas creates an intriguing surface that may be impressed with leaves, branches, feathers, metal objects or hand and face impressions. Each piece is fractured and stained to reveal the beautiful patina of the surface, creating the illusion of fragility and antiquity. The surfaces are not fragile but bonded securely. Earthy colors and rich depth is created with layers of casein, acrylics, shellac, rust and natural pigments left in the surface by the leaves.
